The New Orleans Saints defeated the Minnesota Vikings to win the NFC championship and are on the way to their first Super Bowl. The game came down to a 40-yard field goal by Garrett Hartley of the Saints in the first period of overtime. The final score was 31-28. Both teams started the game on fire on the offensive side of the ball, trading touchdowns early and ending the first half tied at 14-14. Minnesota's offense seemed up to the task of scoring to keep up with the NFC's number one seed, but in the end Minnesota's five turnovers were too much to win the game in regulation.
In two weeks, the Saints will meet today's earlier winners, the Indianapolis Colts, in the Super Bowl. If today's games are any indication, it will be a high-scoring affair.
